Suicide And Mental Health Interventions Are On The Rise

With the growing suicide rate among people suffering from serious mental health issues there is an increased need for strictly organized and carried out interventions by skilled professionals in order to encourage those most in need to get the treatment they need before it is too late.

Unlike those interventions you read about in books or see on television or in the movies where a loving family gathers and confronts a loved one expressing their love and concern and convinces the person to seek medical help or storms away angry.

Real interventions are often fraught with emotion and denials and need to be done by an expert in order for them to be used as a pathway for those struggling with mental illnesses to seek treatment for their condition.

In most cases, interventions need to be carefully planned and carried out in order to ensure the best chance of getting a mentally ill individual to seek treatment. Depending on the issues facing an individual one professional may not be enough. It may take several mental health professionals to take part in the intervention. Professionals who may participate in any given intervention may include:

A Interventionist- A Mental Health Intervention Specialist role in an intervention is to make sure that the groups that all participants are prepared before the intervention for the loved one struggling with mental illness for the best outcome. The interventionist is to evaluate the person suffering from the mental illness and to determine the risk of harm that the person may pose to himself or to others.

A Case Manager- The case manager’s role in the intervention is to determine what services are needed at the moment as well as later should the participant agree to get treatment. They can arrange for in treatment care and reserve a bed at a facility. They also can arrange for out patient treatment, housing and any other services the person may need in order to get well.

Prior to staging an intervention the intervention team needs to meet and carefully plan the intervention discussing such details as to who will speak and when, how an individual may try to flee from the intervention, what advance preparations need to be made for immediate acceptance into treatment and so much more. This preparation is essential in increasing the potential for the success of an intervention and getting the person in need the immediate help they may need.

Other Types of Suicide Interventions

Along with treatment for mental illness suicide interventions may run the gambit from Cognitive behavioral therapy to non-demand caring contact and safety planning.

Families and friends of anyone suffering from mental health issues should not attempt an intervention on their own, but seek the advice and the assistance of trained professionals to help the individual get the treatment they need to help prevent those suicidal thoughts from becoming a reality.

The post Suicide and Mental Health Interventions Are on The Rise first appeared on KD Consulting Interventions.

Why Are So Many People Waiting So Long to Get Help for Alcoholism or Drug Addiction?

It seems in the past year, clients have become sicker than normal. I have come across so many clients that end up in the hospital from their dependency to opiates, excessive alcohol abuse, or injecting heroin into their bodies and the majority of them have been abusing substances for close to 20 years.

I recently had four cases that were all in the hospital on deaths door and most of them are still in the hospital waiting to be released because their dependency to substance brought them to rock bottom which for them, is no return and waiting for their bodies to heal itself with the help of the medical professionals in the hospital healthcare systems.

I am a bit lost and sadden to see so many families waiting and waiting in hopes and anticipation for their loved one addicted to drugs or alcohol to quit or they let it be because they have been functioning for over ten years. They attend work, they play the parenting role, and they can do and act as a normal non-alcoholic or non-substance abuser. But eventually, it is a matter of when their dependency can become the full driving force in their day to day life and come down spiraling leaving them helpless to their addiction.

In my experience for 18 years plus, it is never good to wait. I recently lost someone because the family let his addiction go on too long, but it was not their fault, they had no clue about interventions and how to help someone struggling with addiction. But this is the sad truth that happens daily. And with all the medical professionals in the world, his body kept rejecting every solution for this heart.

It is now so important more than ever to bring more awareness of the steps families can take before it gets to this level where individuals that struggle with addiction are in the hospital for 45-60 days waiting to be released from the hospital care. The only downside to this is that we need families and the individuals to understand the importance of aftercare and just because you were in the hospital for 45 days does not mean you went to treatment. It is recommended that you enter into a substance abuse treatment for additional 30 days with transitional intensive out-patient for 8 weeks more after treatment. Because of the fact that you were in the hospital for such a long period of time with no extensive treatment to help you maintain sobriety that the possibilities are extremely high for you to return home drinking or abusing drugs once again. Especially those that have been in the hospital for weeks at a time, there is a high probability that you may not make the next round after abusing substance and your life is on the line.

For families, this is so important and why you need to get educated on addiction. Too many people pass away daily due to their own dependency to drugs or alcohol; and this why you need to understand your role and what you can do to help someone who is in denial or minimizing or says all the excuses in the book of why. But do not ignore the signs of their addiction because eventually, it gets them to the point where there is no coming back and it is too late to help them recover. Once their dependency starts to affect their internal organs, it can be challenging for our bodies to recover from so much of the toxins put in and then the body cannot handle another drink or drugs entering the body. This leads to kidney, heart, and liver failures and so many more medical concerns.

I feel that so many people are waiting due to denial, financial, insurance, excuses, life stuff and being unaware about addiction. You need to learn about treatment options, learn about drug and alcohol interventions, aftercare, and what is an addiction to better help someone struggling with their disease or if you want help, it is never too late to start. But to keep waiting until the last minute you’re in the hospital is very dangerous because the last drink or drug use can be your last with no coming back alive.

Las Vegas Nevada Interventions and Treatment

Las Vegas, Nevada is one of the largest entertainment cities known in the world. With 24/7 access to alcoholic beverages and casino games makes it a high attraction for those wanting to drink and gamble. In Las Vegas, interventions can be the stepping stone for helping your loved one from gambling their entire savings or drinking themselves to death. It is important not to wait too long to help someone you suspect may have an addiction to gambling or substance, you can start helping them through a professional intervention.

Las Vegas Gambling Statistics

The Nevada Council estimates 6% of Nevada adults may be the problem or pathological gamblers and another 10% of Nevada’s youth are the high risk of becoming problem gamblers. Gambling can be a problem no matter your age. It can be the young adults gambling with their first credit cards or the baby boomers gambling their entire retirements. With the enormous amount of gambling options that the casino provides, it is easy to start gambling, but with each win, it can create a natural high and continuous urge to experience that high again.

Las Vegas Suicidal Statistics

Las Vegas has one of the highest suicide rates for residents in the U.S. The UNLV showed reports that residents living in Clark County were 54 percent to 62 percent more likely to commit suicide than the other areas in the United States. Many of the suicides reported came from Las Vegas area, leaving the state of Nevada concerned that the city of Las Vegas could be causing those to commit suicide since suicidal rates were lower outside of this area.

If you suspect someone may be struggling with mental health or suicidal tendency, it may be best to seek professional immediately.

Substance Abuse in Las Vegas

In the city of Las Vegas, the law allows you to consume alcohol openly on the streets as your walking from one casino to another. But it does not stop many from distributing alcohol illegally and selling illegal substances on the street. With many tourist visiting and the party atmosphere can draw many drug distributors to the streets to make easier for those seeking drugs. Substance abuse in Las Vegas has been a long problem for many years, with prescription drugs being number one following with marijuana. The fact of the matter is that these are highly addictive substances and can go from habitual to physical dependency.

Las Vegas Gambling and Substance Abuse Treatment

Las Vegas gambling and addiction treatment can be a key necessity in breaking the cycle of addiction. Treatment can help enable an individual to stop gambling, strengthening self-esteem, and provide tools to help through self-gratification. Through treatment, therapy, and accountability can help those struggling with addiction overcome their challenges.

Those struggling with a gambling addiction can continue with treatment and seek financial counseling to help them with resolving their financial dilemma. With the continued care of an aftercare treatment plan and support groups, they can start a path toward recovery.

If you are need of helping someone addicted to gambling or substance in Las Vegas to contact an addiction expert at 866-631-0026. KD Consulting can provide step by step options for helping you or your loved one seek immediate help.

The post Las Vegas Nevada Interventions and Treatment first appeared on KD Consulting Interventions.
